Durham Brass Festival 2026: 20 Years of Culture & Creativity

Walkergate Durham looks forward to welcoming Durham Brass Festival 2026 to the city centre this July for the 20th edition of the annual live music festival.

Drawing inspiration from Durham’s rich brass band heritage, Durham Brass Festival celebrates brass music from around the world and across genres in a dynamic eight-day festival. Every year, Durham city centre fills with the diverse sounds of brass instruments played by international stars, up-and-coming musicians, and traditional heritage ensembles to champion the county’s creativity, community, and musical cultural heritage.

From July 12th to 19th 2026, Durham Brass Festival’s vibrant and extensive programme will take over the city – and this year, it’s going to be bigger and bolder than ever!

On Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th July, Durham will come alive with the much anticipated Streets of Brass! Brass ensembles will take over the streets, putting on a series of FREE pop-up live performances at locations across the city centre.

Whether you’re a die-hard fan of brass-heavy genres or just want to dip your toe into a little live music, this is the perfect opportunity to catch an exciting set from some very talented musicians. Keep an eye out around Walkergate for any of the talented bands popping up for an impromptu set on the plaza!

Plus for 2026, Durham Brass will take over the water too with the Brass Boat Cruise 2026. Enjoy a fully licensed bar, wonderful music from one of the festival’s street bands, gorgeous views of Durham city, and an atmosphere you won’t forget.

Meanwhile at our neighbours the Gala Theatre, see everything from world-famous acts like Elvana (the Elvis-front Nirvana tribute) and Oompah Brass XXL’s Viva Brass Vegas, to emerging artists including Dilenttante, Isabel Maria, and Vice Killer at Brassed On. At Durham Cathedral, one of the North East’s most celebrated brass ensembles EverReady Band performs sci-fi and fantasy cinematic soundscapes in Myth, Magic & Lore

We can’t wait to see the incredible acts at Durham Brass Festival 2026, and we hope you’ll make Walkergate your launchpad for your exploration and enjoyment of this year’s exceptional programme. With 24/7 secure parking in our underground car park in the heart of Durham plus a range of drinking and dining establishments, we’re ready to welcome the crowds for this week-long cultural event!
