Walkergate Durham returns as an event sponsor for Fire and Ice 2026, bringing this free family event to the city centre for February half term.
This year, the annual ice sculpture trail will land in Durham from Friday 27th to Saturday 28th February 2026, hosting spectacular ice carvings, live displays, and fiery performances for everyone of any age to enjoy. This year’s theme, Out of This World, will take you across the stars – without needing to leave the city limits!
Start your Fire and Ice 2026 at Walkergate’s 24/7 secure car park to see the incredible Astronaut ice sculpture, an interactive display that lets you step into the shoes – or rather, the helmet – of an adventurous space traveller.

At the Moon Stone Block, you can melt and chip a giant block of ice to release a magical moon stone souvenir to remember the day by.
A quick trip to Millenium Place will reveal the have-a-go ice carving experience and live carving demos to reveal the incredible skills that go into creating every one of the magnificent sculptures dotted around Durham for the two day festival.
Once you’ve completed the city-wide ice sculpture trail, head back to Walkergate to warm up at one of our family-friendly restaurants to finish your day in the best way!
