Before hundreds of musicians descended upon Gala Durham for the North of England Brass Band Championships, Bearpark & Esh Colliery Band were in need of a rehearsal space to prepare for their big performance. ASK Italian at Walkergate Durham were only too happy to help!
Local brass ensemble Bearpark & Esh Colliery Band, who recently celebrated their 75th year, were to compete in the annual brass band championships against fellow northern groups for the opportunity to progress to the national competition.

In order to get in the best possible shape ahead of their big show, Bearpark & Esh sought out a quiet space for a last minute practice before they took to the stage. ASK Italian opened up a little earlier than usual to accommodate the 3rd section brass band for some final preparations. ASK is used to hosting larger parties – although we’re not sure if any have been quite as big as a full brass band!

Thanks to their generosity, Bearpark and Esh were able to squeeze in a quick pre-competition run-through before they joined their fellow competitors across the plaza at the Gala Durham, where they placed fourth overall! The brass ensemble found themselves back at ASK Italian after the competition for a well-deserved celebratory lunch of pizza and pasta.

Congratulations to Bearpark and Esh Colliery Band for their excellent performance and placement in the North of England Brass Band Championship, and thanks to ASK Italian for their accommodation on the day!
